J.F. Burgmüller: Nocturne No.1 for double bass (or violoncello) & guitar
About the Composition
Originally for violin, this beautiful Nocturne is ideal for the progressing bassist or cellist, with an evocative and supportive guitar accompaniment which offers few challenges but many musical opportunities.
The edition remains in bass clef throughout and emphasises the lyrical and singing qualities of the double bass in music which is beautiful and evocative, where the bassist can display more than simply technical prowess
Nocturne No.1 has been very popular with intermediate students who are not quite ready to play in thumb position yet, but have a good knowledge of the positions up to harmonic G (one octave above the open string).
*The double bass part is in solo tuning only.
