Overall Concept
This exercise is based on the concept of playing each note, using each finger on each string, diatonically throughout all 12 keys. The application of this concept produces scalar patterns, which are useful towards gaining an effective command of the fingerboard.
Organization
Each key is split into four different sections:
1. Lower Position
Open string to the octave harmonic.
2. Block Position
Use of thumb between fingered D (G string) and the octave harmonic.
3. Thumb Position
Use of thumb between the octave harmonic to the highest tonic pitch on the G
string. Interval of a third between thumb and second/third finger.
4. Expansion
Use of thumb between fingered D (G string) and the highest tonic or dominant pitch. Interval of a fourth between thumb and third finger.
