About the Composition

Triptych for Three is a colorful and invention three-movement work for the adventurous intermediate bass trio. Each movement inhabits its own vibrant and animated sound world, utilizing the entire range of the double bass in music which challenges and confronts different moods and emotions.

There are solo opportunities for each bassist in music which is lively and animated and with a strong and confident message to convey.

The edition includes a score and three bass parts.

"When I was asked to write a piece in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Recital Music, almost immediately came to me an idea to write something inspired by a great Hungarian composer Ferenc Farkas, more precisely, by his famous "Quattro Pezzi" for double bass and piano.

The present double bass trio could be understood as my homage to Quattro Pezzi, sort of a vision for double bass trio through the virtuosic and humorous spirit of that remarkable composer. All this as a gift to Recital Music and its alma mater David Heyes, celebrating the anniversary and the incredible contribution to printed music for double bass of the highest quality." [Frano Kakarigi, May 2025]
