Isaac Albéniz: Sevilla for double bass and piano (arr. Vaughan)
Isaac Albéniz: Sevilla for double bass and piano (arr. Vaughan)
About the Composition
This is one of the best-known pieces from the Suite Española No. 1 for piano by Albéniz and was popularised by the transcription for solo guitar.
And here it is now for double bass and piano. It lies perfectly within the instrument's range and is an excellent showpiece for advanced players.
As one perceptive listener commented, "I can't believe it wasn't actually written for double bass!"
About Dennis Vaughan
Dennis Vaughan is an established performer, composer and music educator based in Melbourne, Australia. He later joined Orchestra Victoria as associate principal double bass, a position which he held for more than 21 years.
Dennis has always been drawn to what he considers the theatre of music and musical performance. Commissions include five stage musicals, works for choir and orchestra, and a one-man opera, ‘The Tell-Tale Heart’ with libretto by Edgar Allen Poe. This was commissioned and performed by Melbourne Opera for the 2005 Castlemaine Festival, and also performed as part of the State Opera of South Australia 2021 season.
