About the Composition
MATANCERA is a fun and lively piece with influences by Afro-Cuban and samba music styles. It features an interesting and lyrical line in the bassoon alongside a latin double bass groove (pizz.) and two congas.
About the Composer
Mexican bassist and composer. He studied bachelor degree in Universidad de Guanajuato, México, also studied in Mount Royal University with Sheila Garret and John Hyde in Canada and his master degree in Norwegian Academy of Music with Hakon Thelin and Dan Styffe.
As a soloist, he has premiered works by several composers around the world; he is the musical conductor of Mushamukas double bass ensemble and currently a bassist in the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad de Guanajuato. As a composer, he has won several international composition competitions, and his works have been performed by different musicians in 17 countries around the world.
