Teppo Hauta-aho: Duo Basso II 'In Memory of Ray Brown' for 2 double basses
Teppo Hauta-aho: Duo Basso II 'In Memory of Ray Brown' for 2 double basses
About the Composition
Duo Basso II ‘In Memory of Ray Brown’ was composed in 2002 and premiered two years later at Bass-Fest 2004 at Sherborne School (Dorset, UK). In one extended movement and primarily played pizzicato, this is a work of great ingenuity and invention and is aimed at the advanced duo.
There is a strong narrative and dramatic propulsion, inspired by the playing of the great Ray Brown (1926-2002), but within a modern sound world and idiom. There are modern techniques employed to create rhythmic energy and color, with musical and technical challenges aplenty, and this is both player and audience-friendly.
