About the Composition

Folk Songs from Montenegro is a collection of seven vibrant and colorful folk songs arranged for double bass quartet and ideal for the intermediate quartet or ensemble. Each has its own rhythmic vibrancy and energy, in music which is both player and audience friendly, with musical and technical challenges for each player.

The folk songs can be played in any number or order, and the addition of repeats alongside dynamics and articulations, can create a wealth of different textures and timbres. Folk songs have inspired composers for centuries and this collection is a great addition to the bass quartet repertoire.

A drum beat can easily be added to the faster pieces to added urgency, momentum and rhythmic contrast.
