Jason Howard: The Van Suite for solo double bass

About the Composition

The Van Suite is a ten-movement work inspired by my home for the last two years of my experience while attending school for music. In an attempt to connect with nature, I moved into a van and was fortunate enough to call the national forests surrounding me my home. Each movement is named for a different place that I slept, walked, ran, rode, cooked, relaxed, practiced, wrote, and by all means of the word “lived” in. This piece is about the wonder of the outdoors and the means to retrieve that wonder.
