About the Composition
Dors Adèle is a composition by double bassist Jean-Philippe VIRET, part of the L’Orchestre de Contrebasses (The Double Bass Orchestra) repertoire.
It is included in the album “Musiques de l’homme” published in 2005.
This revision, carried out by double bassist Calogero MESSINA, was designed to educate and promote the composer's music.
The improvisation proposed for the double bass 6 (sections J K L) is only a suggestion from the reviser. You will also find an alternative version that only contains the chords chart.
We encourage performers to improvise on the proposed harmonic structure.
About the Composer
Jean-Philippe Viret; French bassist and composer Jean-Philippe Viret began his musical studies at the age of 18, studying bass with Jacques Cazauran and music theory with Julien Falk. He is a founding member of the world-renowned group « l’Orchestre de Contrebasses », which has performed around the world for over 35 years. From 1989 to 1997, he played in the Stéphane Grappelli Trio.
In 1998, he formed his own jazz trio with pianist Édouard Ferlet and drummer Antoine Banville, who was later replaced by Fabrice Moreau. The Trio Viret has recorded 10 albums and has performed concerts in France and worldwide (U.S., Canada, Japan, China, South Korea…).
Nominated in 2003, the Trio eventually won the “Victoires de la Musique” French award twice, in 2011 and 2020. Since 2011, Viret has led the string quartet "Supplément d'âme," with which he has recorded two albums, revisiting the legacy of French Baroque composer François Couperin alongside three prominent classical musicians (Sébastien Surel / vl, David Gaillard / Alto vl, Éric-Maria Couturier).
Still involved as a sideman with many artists such as Mathias Lévy and Simon Goubert, Viret pursues his quest for new musical territories with the duo “Fin Amor” (Atsushi Sakai / viola da gamba) and his family band, « TriumViret » (Adèle Viret / cello, Oscar Viret / trumpet). Since the beginning of his career Jean-Philippe Viret has built an identity and a singularity which is recognized as an important personal voice among the generation of his time
